Many visitors to Bali are drawn to the busy streets of Seminyak for its incredible restaurants, bars, excellent shopping, and high-end accommodation choices. There are many truly stunning hotels and villas but some do come with equally stunning price tags. However, it is possible to experience much of the glamour and luxury in Seminyak for less.
These are my picks for some great value alternatives that will leave you plenty of money for other things.
Located smack bang in the middle of Jalan Laksmana( Eat street) with many of Bali’s best bars, restaurants and shopping right outside.
This is a modern 6 story boutique hotel with well-appointed rooms, a good breakfast and a beautiful COVERED rooftop pool ( ie. nice and cool). Ground floor rooms costs slightly more and have direct access to another swimming pool as well.
Rates at Ize start from around aud$100 per night off-peak and rise to only aud$200 in school holidays. Book your stay at Ize HERE!
Another superbly located hotel/resort Montigo has recently been rebranded and undergone a major renovation.
It now boats 3 swimming pools, lovely large rooms and is situated on Seminyak’s 2nd busiest Jalan with many great bars, restaurants and shops right outside. It is also located right beside Potato Head beachclub.
We paid aud$160 per night for a deluxe room in October 2016.

Reopened in December 2016 Jambuluwak is one of 6 hotels in this well run Indonesian chain.
Located about 300m further north of Montigo but still on the main drag, it is a short walk to the main sights of Seminyak. There are still a couple of excellent restaurants only meters away – Sarong and Merah Putih in particular.
The pool on the ground floor is huge, quite and cool while the rooftop pool offers good views of Seminyak. Next to that is a casual restaurant and well equipped gym. There is also a massive child care centre and conference facilities although I did not see either being used in January 2017.
It’s a deceivingly big hotel with a very small entry and I would think it will do very well with rooms starting at around aud$100.

I will preface this by saying I have not stayed at Dash but have visited a couple of times. It attracts a young crowd but people who are happy to pay a bit more than a hostel for some funky accommodation in a great spot.
Again, a fantastic location and right across the road from Montigo ( you can see it in the pool shot of Montigo above). The red pool is on the ground floor and there is a casual rooftop bar on the 6th floor.
I dont even know how to read this sign!
Courtyard by Marriott
Its been a few years since we stayed at the then brand new Courtyard by Marriott but it continues to get great feedback in reviews and from friends.
Its located at the southern end of Seminyak near the Legian border and is in an area that allows easy access to places like La Plancha ( the famous beach been bag bar) and Double Six. Rooms are comfortable and the hotel has all the amenities and brisk efficient service of the Marriott brand. Rooms average under aud$200 per night.

And two others……
This is not a ‘cheap’ hotel but compared to many others of its kind it is very good value for money. Less than 2 years old and boasting 4 magical swimming pools the Alila has an absolute beachfront location and a wonderful restaurant.
Rooms can be found at Alila often around the aud$350 mark. Its worth considering for a treat or indeed your entire stay!
The Samata is not in Seminyak. In fact its on the other side of the island just north of Sanur. But I’m adding it as an alternative place to stay in case you are doing a side trip to Lembongan ( see link below), would like to visit Sanur or just want a few peaceful days in the most beautiful and tranquil setting.
I spent the 1st night in a standard room with a massive bathroom. I paid aud$160 which included a 1 hour massage, a great breakfast AND airport transfers! The views over the rice paddies are just stunning and as it’s a fairly isolated location there is almost no noise apart from a few local roosters. The staff are lovely and very well-intentioned and I would have to say it was one of the best massages I’ve ever had. Pure heaven.
There are lots of hidden gems in Seminyak, and indeed throughout Bali. In my mind these are the ones that are currently offering the best bangs for your bucks, in the best locations. They prove that you really can experience a high level of luxury in Seminyak for less.
Do let me know if you have any questions and I’d love to hear about your stay too.
